Are you interested in working from home and totally overwhelmed with the sheer volume of opportunities out there online? Are you getting mixed messages? Sometimes your told a business opportunity is so easy, you don’t have to do anything, other times you have heard the learning curve is very steep and it’s a lot of hard work? What is the actual different between MLM and Network Marketing? Why do some people consider themselves an Entrepreneur? What is MLM? Why is there so much hype around MLM scams? All very valid questions and I endeavor to answer them all for you in my Home Based Business Glossary of Terms. There are so many I want to share with you, here is part one.
Entrepreneur – I personally love this term because for me being an Entrepreneur represents a goal
orientated, dynamic, risk taking and daring business owner that has an independent stance on how they do business. Always striving to be professional and consistent to create a great income. Entrepreneurs place a high value on their own self-development to ensure they are always working towards their goals.
Home Based Business- this is a small business that allows you to conduct your business from home using a mix of your own resources (home office) and the resources provided by the affiliate company.
Lead page- is a link you attach to a particular domain address that serves as an electronic calling card for your business. You place the links in your ads, advertising etc and an interested reader who would like to learn more about you and your product/services provides their name and email address (and possibly number). They have now become a ‘lead’. With their details you can provide them valuable information to help build a relationship between you and your potential customer. It’s through this relationship that you can gain sales in the long term.
Mindset It was Jim Rohn who said “Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.”
Picture yourself, in a corporate environment; training, career progression, yearly objectives everything is put on a platter for you. When you’re a Network Marketer (I prefer Entrepreneur
) you are now responsible for all these things yourself!! Your responsible for the way you manage your time, deal with your customers and your marketing strategy etc. Creating personal short, medium and long term goals is the key to creating a fulfilling and rewarding life.
MLM- Multi Level Marketing refer to Network Marketing definition, seriously the structure of the payment system is the same. Network Marketing is a hip new name for Multi Level Marketing.
MLM Scams Be weary of this phrase when reading an article. Someone may be generally trying to raise awareness of a company that is dodgy or it’s another network marketer trying to capture your attention so they can sway you towards their own product. These keywords will always be popular for network marketers because so many people use them to search for information in Google. Be weary, does the person have good reason to classify the MLM company they are referring to as a ‘MLM Scam’? Do they want to get your attention?
Here is an extract from Wikipedia on the shady side of MLM’s.
“MLM companies have been a frequent subject of controversy as well as the target of lawsuits. Criticism has focused on their similarity to illegal pyramid schemes, price-fixing of products, high initial start-up costs, emphasis on recruitment of lower-tiered salespeople over actual sales, encouraging if not requiring salespeople to purchase and use the company’s products, potential exploitation of personal relationships which are used as new sales and recruiting targets, complex and sometimes exaggerated compensation schemes, and cult-like techniques which some groups use to enhance their members’ enthusiasm and devotion. Not all MLM companies operate the same way, and MLM groups have persistently denied that their techniques are anything but legitimate business practices.” Link for reference
Network marketing- this is a term used that describes a marketing structure used certain companies. This structure encourages people to promote and sell goods and to also obtain compensation by introducing others (a downline) to generate their own sales.
